Kelly Redden, from SAS (Specialized Autism Services), has been working with us and our son since April 2005.

Hugo is five years old and has been diagnosed with a possible disorder within the Autism Spectrum Disorder (PDD-NOS), Noonan’s Syndrome, 1.5 year delay in non-verbal cognitive development, 2 year delay in speech and language skills with a low IQ. He attends a special school with English curriculum for 27 hours per week.
 

Kelly Redden has implemented an intervention plan, in the home setting for about 10 hours per week, which includes goals from us, the school IEP (Individual Education Plan) and the speech and language therapist’s recommendations.
 

These goals are included in an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) based intervention plan designed and implemented by Special Autism Services (SAS) including training of the parents and tutors involved in Hugo’s care.
 

A mix of Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Pivotal Response Training (PRT) was implemented into Hugo’s programme. Training in these areas was provided as well as a complete data collection notebook with all of the necessary data sheets specifically designed for each skill in Hugo’s programme.

The initial priority target skills (curriculum areas targeted by SAS training and direct intervention sessions) included social play, imitation skills and spontaneous requesting Non-Verbal Imitation; Block Imitation; Motor Skills; Matching; Pretend Play; Independent Work and Play; Receptive Instructions; Receptive Labels; Categories; Communication; Verbal Imitation; Expressive Labeling; Basic Conversation; Assertiveness; Pronouns; Negation; Attributes; Toilet Training; Self Help Skills; Behavior.
 

During the past three months, Hugo has shown a steady increase in attention span, cooperation, verbal skills and fine motor skills, including a significant improvement in his attitude and behavior.
